Advanced Course

 

This course is for those who already have a certain level of ability in using clay and an understanding of the basic technical aspects of creamics. The goal is to develop the capacity to design and then execute a specific work. A greater understanding of the underlying theory will permit the student to use advanced techniques and to understand which materials are most suitable for a particular piece. In addition, greater emphasis will be put upon aesthetic considerations and expression.

Program

-The chemistry and physics of ceramic materials

-Colour theory

-Planning and executing art objects, including the choice and preparation of the most suitable

clay bodies for each specific work

-Techniques of direct modelling, wheel throwing and the preparation and use of press molds

-Preparation of colours and glazes

-Decorative techniques using clay, natural and coloured slip, colours, glazes and glass.

-Firing with an electric kiln and a gas kiln for raku, with oxidizing and reducing atmospheres
