Ceramics - Melted Glass

For those who already have experience in ceramics. This course treats both the theory and practice of the use of glass in ceramics. Through a series of projects the student will explore the decorative possibilities offered by applying pieces of coloured glass to the surface of a ceramic piece before the second firing.

Program

• -The chemistry and physics of the materials
• - Introduction to colour theory
• -The theory of form and perception
• -The design and execution of art objects. The choice and preparation of suitable clay bodies
• -Hand building techniques and the preparation and use of press molds
• -The preparation of pigments and other colouring agents, glazes and glass
• -Decorative techniques using clay, natural and coloured slip, colours, glazes and glass
• -Types of glass and colours
• -Study of the relationship between decorations using glass and the form of the object
